Pet Boarding in Malaysia: A Practical Preparation Checklist

Good boarding preparation starts before drop-off. Whether you are travelling from Kuala Lumpur, Penang or another Malaysian city, agree on your pet's routine, the home environment and the booking terms with your host. This checklist helps you organise that conversation and the handover.

Questions to ask before booking

Ask where your pet will sleep, how often they will be supervised and whether other animals will share the space. Explain how your pet responds to unfamiliar dogs, cats, children and new places. A profile photo or a low price cannot answer these questions; message the host and arrange an introduction when possible.

Confirm the host's service area, collection arrangements, drop-off and pick-up times, and the full quoted price. Check the cancellation terms and whether transport or additional hours are charged separately.

  • Sleeping arrangements, secure entrances and outdoor access.
  • Other pets in the home and how introductions are handled.
  • Walks, feeding, supervision and the frequency of photo updates.
  • Required health records and any house rules before arrival.

Pack familiar supplies and written instructions

Pack enough of your pet's usual food for the stay and label the portions and feeding times. Bring familiar bedding or a toy if your host allows it. Tell the host about allergies, escape behaviour, fears and handling preferences so they can plan the routine.

For medication or specific health needs, share your veterinarian's instructions and confirm that the host can follow them. Provide your contact details, a backup contact and the veterinary practice you want contacted in an emergency.

  • Usual food, labelled portions, treats and feeding instructions.
  • Lead, harness or carrier, plus permitted familiar bedding.
  • Care routine, health information and veterinarian-provided instructions.
  • Emergency contacts and an agreed plan for urgent veterinary care.

Make drop-off and collection predictable

Allow time at drop-off to review the instructions and check that the host has your contact details. Agree how updates will be sent and when you should expect them. Keep changes to your return time clear so the host can confirm any additional care needed.

After collection, ask how your pet settled, whether they ate normally and whether the host noticed anything you should follow up on. Keep your booking messages and agreed instructions together so both sides can refer to them.
